New Hope Cattle Dogs of AR Rescue and Rehoming, Inc. is a Breed Specific non-profit animal welfare shelter. NHCDAR was founded, and is operated by, Lawrence W. Riggs Sr. - Director. Mr. Riggs has been working with animals for most of his life and has bred and trained several dog varieties including Weimaraner and Standard Poodle. He is very experienced with the Australian breeds of Cattle Dog, Queensland Blue Heeler, Queensland Red Heeler, and Australian Shephards. Mr. Riggs founded NHCDAR in March of 2009 and Incorporated as an Arkansas Non-Profit in December 2009, after becoming more aware of the tragic numbers of wonderful and loving pets being discarded each year by families across our nation. Through no fault of their own, and due to circumstances beyond their control, these animals are simply turned loose, discarded in the country or city, or worse yet taken out and shot. I know this sounds horrible to most but there is a better way.
Through the efforts of many City, County, Humane Society's and Rescue and Rehoming shelters these animals are afforded a second chance to find their fur-ever homes. NHCDAR is associated with the Humane Society of Faulkner County as well as the Springhill Spay/Nueter Clinic and the Vilonia Animal Clinic in Vilionia, AR. Our animals, whether taken in through our Intake Program or Rescue Program, are completely checked out for any detectable health issues. If necessary, after their physical exams by our Board Certified DVM's, we provide them with all care deemed necessary by our Veterinarians. This care includes all shots, tests, preventative Rx products and Spaying/Neutering.
We adhere to very strict policies and procedures for all services whether it be Rescue, Rehoming, or Intake. Please let us explain the difference between the three services NHCDAR provides:
1. Rescue, The process of taking ownership of an Australian breed or Mixed Australian breed that would otherwise be euthanized at a Public Shelter due to overcrowding and no possibility of adoption through that organization's normal processes.
2. Rehoming, The process of placing an animal that lives at the shelter, after being Rescued or brought in through the Intake Process, into a permanent fur-ever home.
3. Intake, The process of receiving ownership of an animal when a family finds it can no longer care for the dog due to circumstances beyond the family's control, i.e., death of the owner, family hardship, relocating to restricted quarters, moving overseas etc.
in all of the services we provide we have a strict policy to always put shelter animals in imminent danger of loss of life at the top of our priorities list.
We are a Breed Specific Shelter for two reasons:
1. The Australian Breeds and their psychological makeup, what makes them tick, are well known to us. This psychological makeup includes diagnosing their mental and physical health and formulating a plan of action for their needs.
2. Australian Breeds are working dogs. They have specific needs to flourish and be happy in their new homes. Happy Dogs make Happy Owners and vise versa. The dogs need a lot of real estate to exercise and build bone and muscle.
We make a commitment to all our rescued dogs to watch over them for life.We require that if one of our dogs ever proves unsuitable for ANY reason in the adopter's home that the dog comes back to us for placement in a more suitable home.
